St. Columbkilles 0-15 Christophers 2-8

It was Donaghmore to the fore as Paddy McKenna scored the winning point with the last kick of the game to win the game for St. Columbkilles and put them into an all Brighton semi-final against Galway next Saturday.

St. Columbkilles started well and went up by a five points to no score lead early.  Jonathan Daniels and Eugene Greaney put the ball over the bar for St. Cols.  Paul Cronin played well at wing forward for the Brighton side and delivered some good ball into the corner forwards.  Christophers got back into the game with a Jim Howard goal.  Howard won the ball and turned to slot the ball inside the near post.  A couple of points made it close.  At the half St. Cols held a two point lead.

Christopher’s started the second half strong and leveled the scored with two early points.  Then a goal came from Steven Curley, who ran 45 yards before burying the ball and giving Colin Murphy no chance at making a save.  Murphy had earlier denied Christophers two golden chances with magnificent saves.  St. Cols too had their chances as Jonathan Daniels, Mick Lyons, and Ryan Bradley all came close to finding the goal.  With Christophers leading by three points things looked bleak for St. Cols, but some changes brought them back into it.  Kieran Flaherty was introduced to the middle of the field and scored a wonderful point as well as linking up well with his back line.  St. Cols went ahead by two points but Christopher’s leveled the scores in the dying minutes with two Mark O’Sullivan free kicks.  With seconds on the clock Paddy McKenna won the ball and popped it over the bar from 30 yards to send his side into next weeks’ semi finals against Galway.

Also at the weekend the Shamrocks defeated Tir na nOg by a score of 5-18 to 2-5, while the Shannon Blues ensured that they finished the season as the top dog by beating Armagh-Notre Dame by a score of 3-10 to 0-9.  Darragh Kinnevey scored two goals and James Kilcullen put in a superb performance in the middle of the field to see the Blues through.  Armagh-ND now have to wait for the result of the Donegal versus Wolfe Tones game to see if they have a playoff game against the losers.  The Blues and McAnespies are in the semis.
