1st November 125 Celebrations - FREE Tours and Activities

Thurles, November 1st 1884; seven men met in Mrs. Hayes Hotel and there founded the Gaelic Athletic Association for the Preservation and Cultivation of National Pastimes. Sunday 1st November 2009 will mark 125 years since that historical day and the GAA Museum is inviting GAA fans of all ages to celebrate the Association’s 125th Anniversary with a day of FREE museum activities and tours.

FREE behind-the-scenes Croke Park Stadium tours will take place throughout the day with an added focus on the founders of the Association. Entertainment in the form of singing and dancing will be provided throughout the day by Dublin Scór members. In the Museum’s interactive area why not test your speed with an old fashioned hurl. At our museum handling station step back in time to learn more about Ireland's greatest warrior and hurler, Cú Chulainn! At the 125 Memory Wall take a stroll down memory lane and record your own special GAA memories.

A unique Irish Tour of the stadium will take place at 2.30pm with a mini trath na gceist afterwards. In keeping with the historical theme of the day, museum visitors will have the opportunity to write your own piece of history by adding something to the Museum’s 125 Time Capsule. Finally the museum is inviting all visitors to wear their GAA jerseys on the day!

Please note that booking is essential for all tours. Other activities on the day will be offered on an ongoing basis and do not require pre-booking.
